Seed/Idea

Use data to visualize the impact of AI/Big Data/Technology on my personal life as it relates to bias, surveillance and stereotyping
Angle: Use my personal experience as learning about AI over the last decade, take the perspective of an engineer and also a consumer
I’d like to continue using the visual of a timeline for communicating about the effect of AI and technology
- I’ll start with continuing to translate different forms of media into art like the process I did for listening to the COVID projects
- I’d then like to take the same timeline approach of looking at my own personal data, or as much that I can find
- I’d also like to learn about what the internet thinks “I am”:
  - How does it make guesses about different parts of my identity like race, gender, class, native language and how does this impact my life? What am I in control of and what am I not?
Questions:
- What information do others have about me?
- What privacy choices do I have on the internet?
Problem: I don’t feel in control of how I’m being categorized by technology
Potential datasets:
- Privacy data from social media websites
- Browser information from cookies and devices
- Advertisement data
- NYC Open Data
