Meeting Preparation
- I began by updated by google slide presentation to include a 5 minute overview of the project and process and prepared audio files of the latest mixes of two songs from the album I could play through zoom.
- The songs I chose were wow! and not ready to tell you which I plan to release as singles
- I chose to have them listen to 60 seconds both to save time but also to test what part of the song snippet I would share in future press releases or playlist emails.
- I then asked each alumni for descriptive feedback on the songs as well as some specific questions I had for each based off of their background and expertise and how I thought they could support me
- At the end of the slides I included some work from my ml5.js explorations to show an example of the interactive web comic I am working on.
Feedback Summary & Takeaways
- I feel confident with wow! and not ready to tell you as singles and using the first 60 seconds of each track when sharing snippets or audio trailers
- The length has enough of the hook to get the listener invested and there are elements of surprise like in not ready to tell you with the build up and beat coming in at the end of the snippet
- Community, teaching, and collaboration
- Suggestions to host outside gatherings, craft workshops, share learnings with other musicians
- Could see me hosting a podcast or consider that as a medium to create since it’s a major part of my research and inspiration
- There is appetite for alternatives to common social media sites and alternatives to streaming services
- A question of “Where will the web comic be hosted?” led to a great suggestion to set up a short link or new domain with redirect to better keep track of visitors online
- Email lists or substack or patreon communities
- A great suggestion to explore metalabel option for release
Thank you to Ami Mehta, L Fahn Lai, and Cezar Mocan for their generosity of feedback, encouragement, and time!
